The Process of Pet Euthanasia
Initial Consultation & Consent
The veterinarian will first discuss your pet’s condition, confirm the decision, and explain the process. Then, you'll be asked to sign a consent form confirming permission for the procedure.
Creating a Peaceful Environment
Please make your pet comfortable with familiar blankets, soft lighting, and gentle voices. If you wish, you can stay with your pet the entire time.
Sedation
A sedative injection will be given to help your pet relax and sleep and prevent them from becoming aware of what’s happening. This helps reduce anxiety or discomfort.
Anesthesia
Propofol will be given intravenously so that your pet is in a deep, unconscious, peaceful sleep.
Euthanasia Injection
Once your pet is relaxed or asleep, the euthanasia solution will be administered into the catheter. This causes the heart to slow and stop, usually within seconds. It’s painless and peaceful.
Aftercare
After your pet has passed, the vet will confirm death with a stethoscope. You’ll have a chance to say goodbye. Your prearranged appointment with your chosen cremation service will then be performed by them.
